All flesh is like grass - Borgny Svalastog

25 September - 12 December 2021

Borgny Farstad Svalastog (b. 1943) is a Norwegian visual artist. She works in many different materials such as drawing, textiles, graphics, pastels, sculpture and installation. For many, she is particularly known for textiles and embroidery, and she has made a number of episcopal robes and church textiles for more than 40 churches, primarily in Norway. Borgny Svalastog has been appointed a Knight in the 1st class of the Royal Norwegian St. Olavs Orden.

In 2007, Art Centre Silkeborg Bad showed her exhibition “14 + 1 Etstacions”. It was a total installation in our then special exhibition house Skovvilla, and curated by Norwegian Per Bjarne Boym. One of the recurring works here was a large series of glass shoes in different colors.

Now, fourteen years later, we look forward to presenting Svalastog's large retrospective exhibition, and this time you will meet her work in the very central space, the old bathing hall in the Spa Building. Audiences can see works from her entire career, from her debut exhibition in 1984 until today. This exhibition is also curated by Per Bjarne Boym and marks the end of Svalastog's long artistic career.

The title of the exhibition is taken from a Bible verse:

All humans are like grass and all their splendor like the flower of the grass.
The grass withers and the flower falls off.
- Peter's first letter. 1:22

The presentation is the second stop on a tour that starts at the Telemark Gallery in Norway, then guests Silkeborg and finally presented at the Pilgrim Museum in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

Borgny Svalastog's retrospective exhibition can be seen at Art Centre Silkeborg Bad in the period 25 September - 12 December 2021.
